RECONSTRUCTION WORK ON PARKING LOT ON CORNER OF KEAWE ST. AND WAIĀNUENUE AVE. TO BEGIN ON MAY 31ST.

HILO, May 24, 2016 - The Department of Public Works Highways Division will begin reconstruction work on the parking lot located on the corner of Waiānuenue Avenue and Keawe Street on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.  The parking lot will be closed for the duration of the project that is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, June 6, 2016, weather conditions permitting.  Work will be done between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., there will be no work on the Memorial Day weekend. 

Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

Hōkūli‘a / Māmalahoa Bypass Road Update

The construction on the $28 million Māmalahoa Highway bypass and a new intersection at Nāpo’opo’o Road is moving ahead fairly smoothly.  Isemoto Contracting Co. is busy constructing the roadway with 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders.  The pouring and paving of 7.5 inch thick concrete over a 2 mile stretch is in process.

The bypass makai of the Belt Road is designed to move traffic quickly past such congested areas as Honalo, Kainaliu and Konawaena schools.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (Kamāmalu Street to Iona Court) COMPLETED

KAMUELA, May 6, 2015The Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works and its contractor Jas W. Glover Ltd. is pleased to announce that the Māmalahoa Highway Roadway Improvement Project between Kamāmalu Street and Iona Court  has been completed.

The project included the reconstruction, subgrade, and resurfacing of the roadway; water lateral adjustments and other related improvements.  Majority of the work was done at night and the project was completed on time and within budget.  

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works would like to thank the community and motorists for their patience, understanding and support throughout the improvement project.

RAILROAD AVENUE ROADWAY STRIPING MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN ON MONDAY, MAY 2nd 

HILO, April 26, 2016 - The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works Traffic Division will be conducting roadway striping maintenance work on Railroad Avenue from Leilani Street to end of the roadway.  Work is scheduled between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, May 2nd through Friday, May 6th weather and construction conditions permitting. 

Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes. Special off-duty police officers will be posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

INSTALLATION OF RIGHT TURN LANE ON KUAULI ROAD TO BEGIN ON TUESDAY APRIL 26TH 

KURTISTOWN, April 25, 2016 – The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works will be installing a right turn lane on Kuauli Road where it intersects the Volcano Highway (makai side) heading towards Keaau.  Work is scheduled between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, April 26th, and is estimated to be completed by Friday, May, 20th, weather and construction conditions permitting.  There will be no roadwork on weekends or holidays. 

Motorists are advised to expect delays and drive with caution as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone.  The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
