ROADWAY RESURFACING WORK ON AINAKO AVE. AND MANULELE ST. TO BEGIN ON TUESDAY MARCH 28TH

The County of Hawai‘i  Department of Public Works Highways Division will begin resurfacing work on Ainako Ave. and Manulele St. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, to Friday, March 31, 2017.  Work is scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles will be in the work zone.  Alternating lane closures will be in effect.  At a minimum, one lane of travel (for two-way traffic) will be provided at all times through the construction area. 

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

RELIEF STREAM BRIDGE NO. 46-10 ON KAHANA DRIVE TO BE REPAIRED

The Relief Stream Bridge No.46-10 on Kahana Drive, approximately half way between Kalehua Road and the Old Māmalahoa Highway will be closed (24-hour closure) for repair work beginning on Monday, March 13, 2017, and will re-open on Thursday, March 30, 2017.  Work is scheduled between the hours of at 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting. 

The repair work involves the rehabilitation of the existing bridge structure which includes replacing the old timber components (railings, decking, stringers, bearing plates, and back plates).

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes as bridge access will be blocked for the duration of the rehabilitation project.

THIRD BRIDGE CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED ON PA‘AUILO MAUKA ROAD NOW REQUIRES 24 - HOUR CLOSURE.

PA‘AUILO , March 7, 2017– The Waika’alulu Bridge No.44-5 located on Pa‘auilo Mauka Road (between Ho’okahua Road and Kukuipapa Road) that is scheduled to be closed for repair work between the hours of  8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., now requires a 24-hour closure beginning on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 through Friday, March10, 2017.

During the process of removing the bridge railings, it was discovered that the extent of deterioration is worse than previously anticipated, and will require replacement.  Repair work will be more involved and requires a 24-hour closure necessary for the safety of the traveling public.  The closure will also allow bridge work to be completed in a safe and timely manner.  The bridge will re-open on Friday, March 10th approximately 2:00 p.m. or after the work is completed, weather and construction conditions permitting.  Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the bridge closure.

WAIKA’ALULU GULCH BRIDGE REPAIR ON KA’APAHU ROAD

The Waika’alulu Gulch Bridge No.44-6 (TMK:4-4-009:009) located mauka of Highway 19 on Ka’apahu Road, near the intersection with Apelanama Road, will be closed for repair work between the hours of at 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, February 27, 2017 through Wednesday, March 1, 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting. The bridge will re-open the end of each workday by 2:00 p.m.  Motorist are advised to use alternate routes during the bridge closure hours.

The repair work involves the rehabilitation of the existing bridge structure which includes replacing the old timber components with new wood preservative treated components.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS (Iona Court to Mana Road)

The County of Hawai‘i  Department of Public Works Highways Division will begin resurfacing work on the Māmalahoa Highway beginning at Iona Court and proceeding towards Mana Road on Monday, January 23, 2017 to approximately Friday, February 3, 2017.  Work is scheduled approximately between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather and construction condition permitting, and it may be occasionally modified to facilitate the work.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles will be in the work zone.  Alternating lane closures will be in effect and at a minimum, one lane of travel (for two way traffic) will be provided at all times through the construction area.  Special off-duty police officers will be posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement.
