CONVERSION TO L.E.D. STREETLIGHTS CONTINUES IN KONA ON SEPTEMBER 28TH AND 29TH 

The Department of Public Works, Traffic division will be conducting streetlight work on Wednesday, September 28th along Hualālai Rd. from the intersection of Kuakini Hwy. and Hualālai Rd. and then along Ali’i Dr. from the intersection of Hualālai Rd. and Ali’i Dr. heading in the southern direction.  Streetlight work will continue on Thursday, September 29th on Palani Rd. from the intersection of Hina Lani St. and Palani Rd., to the Palani Rd. and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Hwy. intersection.  Work for both days is scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., weather conditions permitting.

This work is part of the County public streetlight conversion program.  The program converts streetlights from current low-pressure sodium lamps, or LPS, to light-emitting diode lamps or LED.

Special off-duty police officers will facilitate traffic movement during intermittent lane closures.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

TRAFFIC ALERT

Grass Cutting Work on Palani Road, Kona

The County of Hawaii plans to do grass cutting, mulching, and vegetation control on Palani Road beginning at the Palani Road and the Old Māmalahoa Highway intersection and proceeding down towards Kailua Bay on September 21st - 23rd, 2016.

Alternating lanes will be closed to traffic between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, September 21st through Friday, September 23rd, while work is occurring, weather conditions permitting.

The lane closures are necessary to complete the work in a timely manner and for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes. 

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

PAVING WORK CONTINUES ON KEKŪANĀO’A ST. BETWEEN MILILANI ST. AND HĪNANO ST.

HILO, Sept. 16, 2016 - There will be a ONE-WAY traffic pattern on Kekūanāo’a St. between Mililani St. and Hīnano St. from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23, 2016.  Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. 

 The following traffic patterns will be in effect on Thursday, September 22nd

  • Only local traffic will be allowed on Manono St. between Lanikāula St. and Kekūanāo’a St.  
  • Hāmākua bound (north direction) on Manono St., Kekūanāo’a St. Intersection closed.
  • Puna bound (south direction) on Manono St., no left turn on Kekūanāo’a St. 
  • Leilani St. will remain open as a pass thru at the Manono St. and Leilani St. intersection.
  • Hāmākua bound on Mililani St., no right turn onto Kekūanāo’a St.
  • Puna bound on Mililani St., no left turn onto Kekūanāo’a St.

The following traffic patterns will be in effect on Friday, September 23rd

  • Puna bound on Manono St., Kekūanāo’a St. Intersection closed.
  • Hāmākua bound on Manono St., no left turn onto Kekūanāo’a St.
  • Puna bound on Hīnano St., no right turn onto Kekūanāo’a St.
  • Hāmākua bound on Hīnano St., no left turn onto Kekūanāo’a St.

Special off-duty police officers will be posted in the work area to facilitate and redirect traffic movement to alternate routes. 

The Highway Maintenance Division plans to expedite and complete the work by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 23, weather and construction conditions permitting.

LAUPĀHOEHOE POINT ROAD CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE WORK ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th.

HĀMĀKUA, September 6, 2016 - The County Highway Maintenance Division announces the closure of Laupāhoehoe Point Road between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016, weather conditions permitting.

This closure is necessary to complete road maintenance work, including vegetation control, in a timely manner and for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Only local traffic will be allowed access.

ONE LANE CLOSURE ON MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY FOR NĀPŌ‘OPO‘O INTERSECTION NIGHT TIME PAVING WORK.

CAPTAIN COOK, Sept. 6, 2016 – The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works announces a one lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway extending approximately 500 feet beginning at Shiraki Dry Cleaners and past the Nāpō‘opo‘o Road intersection on Thursday evening, September 8, 2016 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Friday morning, September 9, 2016. 

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to drive with caution as heavy vehicles and machinery will be in the work zone.  Special off-duty police officers will be posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement.
