ADA Pedestrian Push Button Installation at Kuakini Highway / Hualālai Road Intersection April 25

The Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works, Traffic Division is scheduled to install ADA pedestrian push buttons on traffic signal poles at the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Hualālai Road in Kailua-Kona on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m, weather conditions permitting.

The new push buttons will ping a sound or can be programmed to talk and pedestrian countdown modules will emit the “HAND” and “MAN” signals.

There will be intermittent lane closures and travel in all directions through the work area will be provided. Road work signs will be posted in the work zone and special duty police officers will facilitate traffic movement and assist pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk. Motorists are advised to expect delays and encouraged to use alternate routes.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

Traffic Signal Repair and Roadway Resurfacing Work for Hualālai St. in Hilo Rescheduled for 4/28-5/2

Resurfacing work on Hualālai St. in Hilo between Kapi‘olani St. and Kīlauea Ave. that was scheduled to take place Monday, April 15, 2019 through Thursday, April 18, 2019 has been rescheduled due to inclement weather. The County of Hawai’i Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division plans to conduct the work Monday, April 29, 2019, to Thursday, May 2, 2019. Work is scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting. 

Work is planned to be done on the Hualālai St. roadway in 2 phases. On April 29th - 30th, from Kapi‘olani St. to Kino‘ole St. and May 1st – May 2nd from Kino‘ole St. to Kīlauea Ave. There will be no parking along the roadway during the work period. Alternating lane closures will be in effect and work will be done on one lane at a time. Travel in both directions will be provided with traffic control personnel posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement. 

Traffic Signal Repair Rescheduled for April 28
In addition, repair work to the traffic signal wiring at the intersection of Hualālai and Kino‘ole Streets that was scheduled for Sunday, April 14, was cancelled due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for April 28, weather and conditions permitting. Department of Public Works Traffic Division will conduct work starting at 8 a.m. and be completed by 6:30 p.m. at the latest. The intersection will be flashing red all directions and the public must treat it as a four way stop.

During the scheduled repair work motorists are advised to drive with caution and are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the area during the scheduled work times.
