Traffic Signal Repair at the Hualālai / Kinoole intersection in Hilo on Sunday, April 14

On Sunday, April 14, 2019, the Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division will repair the traffic signal wiring at the intersection of Hualālai and Kinoole Streets in Hilo. The work will be conducted from 8 a.m. and be completed by 6:30 p.m. at the latest.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution. All left turn lanes will be closed, and still be able to turn left at the stop bar.

The intersection will be flashing red all directions and the public must treat it as a four way stop.

This work will be done prior to the roadwork resurfacing work on Hualālai St. between Kapi‘olani St. and Kīlauea Ave. that is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 15.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks the community for their patience and understanding.

ROADWAY RESURFACING WORK ON HUALĀLAI ST. (KAPI‘OLANI ST. TO KĪLAUEA AVE.) 04/15 TO 04/18.

The County of Hawai’i Department of Public Works Highway Maintenance Division will begin resurfacing work on Hualālai St. between Kapi‘olani St. and Kīlauea Ave. on Monday, April 15, 2019, to Thursday, April 18, 2019.  Work is scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather and construction conditions permitting.  

Work will be done on the Hualālai St. roadway in 2 phases.  On April 15th - 16th, from Kapi‘olani St. to Kino‘ole St. and April 17th - 18th from Kino‘ole St. to Kīlauea Ave.  There will be no parking along the roadway during the work period.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution as heavy vehicles will be in the work zone and are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the area during the scheduled work times.  Alternating lane closures will be in effect and work will be done on one lane at a time.  Travel in both directions will be provided with traffic control personnel posted in the area to facilitate traffic movement.  Intersections in the work zone will remain open.
